Jagadguru Shriman Madhvacharya, the reincarnation of Lord Hanumaan in Tretayug and the mighty Lord Bheemasena himself in Dwapara Yug, consecrated Lord Sri Krishna at Udupi eight centuries ago for the upliftment of devotees. He also established eight Mathas to perform the rituals to Lord Shri Krishna. Shri Puthige Matha is one among the eight Mathas and Sri Upendra Theertha is the first pontiff of the lineage. The current pontiff, Parama Poojya Sr. Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, is the 30th saint in the lineage. He will ascend the most auspicious Sarvajna Peetha to carry out the two-year paryaya celebrations from the ensuing January 18th, 2024 to January 17th, 2026. This will be his 4th such ascension onto the paryaya throne, this time accompanied by his beloved disciple Sri Sri Sushreendra Theertha Sripadaru.
